2. Hazel Ashe's Standout Summer Show

Earlier this season, we were delighted to open a much-anticipated solo exhibition by Hazel Ashe. Comprising 24 original oil paintings, the collection captured the fleeting light and ever-changing movement of the Cornish coastline that has shaped Hazel's artistic practice.

Deeply influenced by Impressionism, Hazel paints with an intuitive understanding of place. Her work is rooted in a profound affection for Cornwall, where shifting skies, tidal rhythms, and luminous seas become moments of quiet contemplation.

Collection Spotlight: 'Hwevrer (February)'

Working in oils, 'Hwevrer (February)' is a beautiful example of Hazel's remarkable ability to capture the sea in motion. Gentle yet powerful, the painting explores the movement of the ocean as light catches the crest of a wave. Rich in atmosphere, it invites the viewer to pause and become immersed in the rhythm of the water.

3. The Return of Amanda Hoskin

This June, we were delighted to spotlight the captivating work of Amanda Hoskin. Working predominantly in oils, Amanda's paintings are characterised by gentle light, and a dreamlike quality.

Across the Fields to St Mawes is a masterful example of her practice. Delicate attention is given to every element of the landscape, where the eye first settles upon a foreground abundant with wild flora before being gently drawn towards sunlight dancing across the water beneath a glowing horizon. Soft mauves set against vibrant green hedgerows create a romantic and deeply evocative vision of the Cornish landscape.

Pairing: Charlotte Jones Ceramics

We have paired a selection of ceramics by Charlotte Jones. Charlotte's distinctive practice has evolved gradually over more than twenty years, combining throwing, coiling, and hand-building techniques to create vessels that are both sculptural and deeply tactile.

Colour is worked directly into white stoneware clay using local clays, grog gathered from nearby streams, and natural oxides. Rather than decorating the surface, Charlotte builds colour, texture, and pattern into the very structure of each piece, creating what she describes as a three-dimensional collage inspired by the pages of her sketchbooks.

Her pots are carefully scraped into shape, their softly pinched rims recalling the riven slate edges of her Cornish chapel home. Burnished while leather hard before a single high firing, each vessel celebrates the slow, thoughtful rhythm of making, revealing both the artist's hand and her close relationship with the landscape.

Curationally, the organic rhythms of Jones’ pieces allow for a complementary display paired with Ashe’s presentation of Cornish seascapes.
