July Reflections: A Summer Season of New Arts Begins
July has brought long, sun-filled days and an inspiring energy to the gallery. We've seen the launch of new collections, a major summer exhibition and the arrival of exciting new artists joining us at the gallery.
1. Lucia Fraser: Painterly Ceramics
This July, multidisciplinary artist Lucia Fraser presents a beautiful new collection of ceramic works. Lucia's approach to ceramics is informed by her painting practice, using traditional hand-building techniques to create sculptural, flat forms that become three-dimensional canvases for her distinctive glazing process.
Her recognisable mark-making transfers effortlessly from canvas to clay, resulting in expressive, painterly surfaces full of movement and colour. Rich blues, soft pinks and fresh greens weave throughout the collection, creating pieces that are both gestural and contemporary. Carefully considered in both form and palette, these ceramics sit beautifully within the home, complementing interiors and paintings alike.
2. Season of Art
Summer also marks the beginning of our longest-running gallery exhibition, Season of Art. This exhibition is a celebration of seven represented artists, seven weeks and over 70 new paintings.
Each Thursday throughout the exhibition, the gallery is re-hung, transforming the space and allowing each artist's collection to take centre stage. The changing display offers visitors a fresh experience each week, showcasing a diverse range of painting styles alongside carefully curated ceramic works.
We began the show with emerging (yet-pretty prolific!) artist Aisleigh Anne, whose bold use of colour and expressive gestural marks capture the energy, movement and atmosphere of the Cornish landscape with remarkable confidence.

3. Welcoming Holly Cecilia Smith
This month, we are delighted to welcome Holly Cecilia Smith to Beside The Wave.
Working from her studio at Krowji in Redruth, Holly creates expressive contemporary paintings inspired by walking, travelling and spending time immersed in the landscape. Her work explores the quiet beauty of places we often overlook, returning repeatedly to familiar coastlines and paths to reveal subtle shifts in light, atmosphere and perspective.
Through an intuitive and playful approach to materials, Holly's paintings evoke the ever-changing character of the Cornish coast. Sweeping brushstrokes, layered colour and delicate textures create landscapes that feel both deeply observed and emotionally resonant.
Holly studied History of Art at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and is currently studying in Kristina Buch's conceptual sculpture class at the Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, Germany.
As Holly describes, 'I'm interested in those quieter moments where looking becomes the actual subject of the work.'
We are pleased to represent Holly through this wonderful collection of original works on paper - paintings that celebrate colour, weather and the ever-changing rhythms of the Cornish landscape.
4. Working with Pen and Ink: Richard Tuff
We are super-excited to introduce a new collection by established artist Richard Tuff.
Richard's monochrome pen and ink drawings offer a charming and distinctive interpretation of the Cornish landscape. With decades of experience, his confident hand allows him to embrace what might be described as a naïve style, balancing simplicity with skill and observation.
Each work captures familiar places across Cornwall with warmth and character. Through expressive line work and carefully composed scenes, Richard invites us on a visual journey through landscapes that feel both timeless and deeply familiar.
