Collection: Mike Hindle

Mike Hindle is a contemporary landscape painter based in Cornwall. He studied Fine Art at West Surrey College of Art and Design and has worked as a full-time artist since moving to Cornwall in 1992. He first exhibited with Beside The Wave in 1998.

Hindle’s practice is centred on the Cornish coastline, with particular attention to its changing light, weather and geological formations. Early experiences of walking in the Lake District informed his long-standing interest in wild landscapes. More recently, his Helford series reflects a shift towards a slower and more considered approach to painting.Working from direct observation and experience of place, his paintings explore scale, atmosphere and the relationship between land and sea, focusing on the visual and physical impact of the coastal environment.

"I find myself drawn to the wild coastline where the ever changing elements play with the rocks and sea to create wonderful vistas which are a treat to witness. Standing out on the cliffs is both empowering and humbling at the same time… I find myself inspired to capture and recreate the magic of the places I am fortunate enough to witness and humbled by the shear scale of the place"
