Collection: Mary Mabbutt

Mary Mabbutt is an oil painter based in Cornwall and has been represented by Beside The Wave since 2014. She studied Fine Art at Loughborough College of Art & Design and later at the Royal Academy Schools, London.

Working primarily from life, Mabbutt’s practice focuses on colour, light and pattern within everyday and domestic settings. Her paintings develop from observed moments of visual awareness, often prompted by particular relationships of light and colour, which are then explored through the material processes of oil painting.

She has exhibited widely across the UK and internationally. Her work is held in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. In 2002 she received the South West Arts Major Award and has also received awards from the John Moores Painting Prize, the Walker Art Gallery, and the National Open Art Exhibition at Plymouth City Museum.
