Collection: Andrew Knee

Andrew is a potter living and working in Sydenham, South London. He is currently producing large pieces; full, statuesque shapes: jars, bottles and also, functional ware; jugs and other domestic items. The work is stoneware and also raku fired.

"The forms soeak for themselves; the glazes are just a suit of clothes. The process is lengthly and unpredictable but if you love it, it will sometimes love you back."

Pots are splashed and poured or daubed with oxides, engobes and silica carbide to create textures and surfaces which are unpredictable and unique. After graduation, Andrew gravitated towards London where he met Lisa Hammond, helping her to set up her first Greenwich studio and training in production throwing.

In the 1980’s Andrew spent 5 years in Shizuoka, Japan. Writing and travelling and spending most weekends training and working with a local potter, he developed a deep respect for Japanese craftsmanship and its close relationship with the natural world.
