August Journal: Our Summer of Arty Fun
We’ve had a incredible summer at the gallery. Across the season, we set ourselves the challenge of rehanging the gallery each week, presenting seven collections from seven artists and allowing each body of work its own spotlight within the space.
As an independent Cornish gallery, considered curation and celebrating our represented artists is central to what we do. Each rehang brought a different character to the gallery, moving between seascape, landscape and still life, and bringing together a breadth of mediums and approaches. It has been rewarding to see the space continually evolve and, with it, new conversations emerge between artwork, artist and visitor.
My favourite moments from the season...
1. Jon Doran's Atmospheric Depiction of Cornwall
Earlier this summer, we presented a new collection by Jon Doran, characterised by delicate light and an extraordinary softness of atmosphere. Through his considered use of oil, landscapes appear recognisable yet soft, with a quietness that draws you into the scene.
2. Nicola Mosley & Miles Heseltine Evocative Places Remembered Exhibition
Places Remembered brought together two distinct yet complementary approaches to landscape.
Nicola Mosley’s evocative paintings, shaped by earthy tones, sweeping horizons and shifting Cornish light, explored our emotional connection to place. Alongside them, Miles Heseltine’s energetic drawings and paintings used intuitive mark-making and layered textures to capture the experience of being within a landscape.
Together, the collections created a thoughtful dialogue between landscape, light and memory.
3. One To Watch: Johnty Robinson
A particularly exciting addition this summer was Johnty Robinson’s Patterns and Porcelain. Working in oil on board, Robinson brings together thoughtful composition, confident colour and remarkable observation.
Both bold and delicate, the painting elevates a familiar domestic scene into something quietly transporting - the suggestion of a table, a good book and a moment of stillness.

To mark the close of the season, we’re bringing these components together with our Season of Art summer party, along with an exciting display of our received collections this summer.
Events have always been an important part of the gallery - an opportunity for artists, collectors, friends and visitors to meet, spend time with the work and share in what has been created.
Join us for an evening in the gallery, a chance to revisit the summer’s collections and celebrate the season over a drink. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic options will be available, and everyone is welcome.
