"The close to home exhibition has been a great opportunity to stop, breathe and take in the wonder that surrounds us, in this beautiful part of the country. This collection of paintings focuses on family memories- day trips, long walks, moments  which filled us with gratitude. These paintings serve as a little windows to a moment in time which cannot be repeated- a moment when the clouds towered over us, or the rainbow turned pink, or boat was late or the baby slept and gave us longer to gaze at the sky. Whatever the personal memory they capture, there is also a commonality to it all. For those of us that know and love Cornwall, I hope these paintings can jog other memories connected to this beautiful place. " - Nancy Crewe

"People often describe my work as dreamlike or ethereal, and I love that - but for me, it isn’t imagined. It’s real. It’s exactly how I experience these places. There’s a glow, a tenderness in the landscape that’s difficult to explain, but painting allows me to hold onto it. Each piece is rooted somewhere I’ve sat quietly, breathed deeply, and felt a sense of being held. I often arrive feeling overwhelmed or guarded, yet something in the landscape always invites me to soften.

This collection not just about what I see but more about what I feel. It’s about the energy of a place: that deep breath as you reach a hidden beach, the grounding effect of those windswept trees, like guardians watching over us, the soft pinks in the sand that lift my mood.

I find Cornwall very healing, and so it's important to me to try and capture that uplifting feel but not to take away from the calm, restorative side. These paintings are my way of capturing that balance. I want the work to feel light and to bring joy and calm into someone’s home, just as nature brings me such happiness and peace." - Aisleigh Anne

"Inspiration in Cornwall comes from its history and shifting landscapes. The coastline, fields, and moors continue to change with the weather and seasons, offering new views and moods each day. Painting Cornwall is to capture not only its outward beauty, but also the story of a place where human effort and the natural world are closely connected." - Hugo Jones

"My paintings focus on coastal skies and the colours of early mornings, dusk and the silver light of a winter’s day. My studio is perched on a hill overlooking Falmouth harbour - it’s exposed to all the elements that the ever changing Cornish weather brings. At times it’s very atmospheric, seeing dramatic storms rolling in over the bay, and being surrounded by all this has had a significant influence on my work.

When painting, I think a lot about light. How light illuminates the water, the clouds and the land. I am drawn to the drama, the contrasts, the colour shifts that light creates. The shifting light that occurs in a single day from sunrise to sunset, from one day to the next, from one season to another. It is this fluctuating light, changing, multifaceted and full of illuminating colour that I see everyday, that is so inspirational to me. This is at the forefront of my work, what I hope to capture; the layers and emotion that light conjures within land, sky and sea." - Nicola Mosley
